6 Brigade Salutes Two Retiring Regimental Sergeant Majors for Exemplary Service.

6 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army in Jalingo has honoured two Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) who retired after completing 35 years of distinguished service in the military.

As contained in a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lt Mohammed Umar, the colourful send-off ceremony, held on Friday, March 27, 2026, was presided over by the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro.
The retirees, Master Warrant Officer David Cole, RSM Headquarters 6 Brigade, and Master Warrant Officer Titus Phillibus, RSM 732 Supply and Transport Battalion, will proceed to the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC), Oshodi, Lagos, as part of their transition into civilian life after completing meritorious and unblemished service in the Army.
In his remarks, Brigadier General Akaliro described the two RSMs as disciplined, hardworking and dedicated soldiers whose leadership and mentorship had positively influenced many personnel within the Brigade.
He noted that their professionalism throughout their military careers aligns with the “Soldier First” concept championed by the Chief of Army Staff, which emphasizes recognition and celebration of personnel who demonstrate outstanding discipline, commitment and professionalism.
The Brigade Commander advised the retirees to settle peacefully in any part of the country of their choice, assuring them that they would always remain valued members of the 6 Brigade family. He also wished them a fulfilling and prosperous retirement as they transition to civilian life.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 6 Brigade, Colonel Umar Mohammed, described the office of the Regimental Sergeant Major as the cornerstone of discipline, regimentation and leadership in the Army.
According to him, the simultaneous retirement of the two senior non-commissioned officers marks the end of a remarkable era in the Brigade’s history, noting that their legacy of discipline and professionalism will continue to inspire younger soldiers for years to come.
Colonel Mohammed commended the retirees for their loyalty and dedication to duty, stressing that their contributions to the Brigade, the Nigerian Army and the nation remain invaluable. He encouraged them to continue contributing to community development as proud ambassadors of the Army.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Master Warrant Officer David Cole expressed gratitude to the Brigade Commander for the honour accorded them. He also praised the Commander’s leadership and mentorship, noting that his guidance has contributed significantly to the Brigade’s operational successes.
He urged serving personnel to remain disciplined and committed to their duties while wishing them success in their military careers.
