WACHEF, ActionAid Commissions Education, Water Projects in Yorro Community.

The Women and Children Health Empowerment Foundation (WACHEF) has commissioned and handed over a block of renovated classrooms, a borehole, and 90 student desks in Nyaja Davon community of Yorro Local Government Area, Taraba State.

The multi million naira projects were executed under the Local Rights Programme implemented by WACHEF and funded by ActionAid Nigeria as part of efforts to improve access to quality education and basic social amenities in rural communities.
The interventions have brought renewed hope to residents and complements the Taraba State Government’s free and compulsory education policy by providing a more conducive learning environment for pupils.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, WACHEF Programme Officer, Wisdom Christopher, welcomed guests and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to implementing initiatives that directly impact the lives of women and children across the state.
In his remarks, founder and Chairman of the WACHEF Board of Trustees, Dr. Garba Danjuma, noted that despite being an indigenous non-governmental organisation, WACHEF has expanded its operations beyond Taraba State, delivering impactful interventions in health, education, and economic empowerment.
“This event is not just about infrastructure; it is about hope, dignity, and opportunity for our children. The project we are commissioning today was implemented under the Local Rights Project, executed by the Women and Children Health Empowerment Foundation (WACHEF) and generously funded by ActionAid Nigeria. We are sincerely grateful for this partnership, which reflects what can be achieved when organizations and stakeholders work together with a shared commitment to human development” Dr Danjuma noted.
Dr. Danjuma commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his efforts in improving security and education in the state, while also appreciating ActionAid Nigeria for its unwavering support and commitment to grassroots development. He further praised community members for their resilience and cooperation throughout the implementation of the projects.
Commissioning the projects, the Taraba State Commissioner for Basic Education, Hajiya Fatima T. Habeeb, lauded WACHEF for its contributions to the development of the state through interventions in education, healthcare, and livelihoods.
She also commended the administration of Governor Agbu Kefas for creating an enabling environment for development partners and non-governmental organisations to thrive.
The commissioner urged the community to take ownership of the projects and ensure their proper maintenance for the benefit of present and future generations.
Delivering an address at the occasion, the Country Director of ActionAid Nigeria, Mr Andrew Mamedu represented by Mr. Kehinde Arowosegbe reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting community-driven development initiatives aimed at improving the well-being of vulnerable populations.
“At ActionAid Nigeria, we believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives. Every child deserves access to quality education in a safe and conducive environment. We also believe that access to clean water is not a privilege but a fundamental human right” he noted
The event attracted several dignitaries, including the Chairperson of Yorro LGA, Commissioners, Member II Taraba state Basic Education Board, Permanent Secretaries, representatives of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), members of the WACHEF Board of Trustees, the Managing Director of Waseny Construction Limited, representatives of IFAS, traditional leaders, and community stakeholders.
In separate goodwill messages, speakers commended WACHEF and ActionAid Nigeria for their sustained commitment to improving the lives of rural communities.
The Chairperson of Yorro LGA, Hon Martina Anthony urged residents to protect and maintain the projects to ensure their long-term sustainability, calling on other stakeholders and development partners to emulate the initiatives of WACHEF and ActionAid Nigeria that are promoting safe and conducive learning environment for children in the local communities.
Our correspondent reports that the Local Rights Programme, implemented by WACHEF and funded by ActionAid Nigeria, is being carried out in twelve communities across Yorro and Gashaka Local Government Areas. The programme features various components, including child message collections, Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), empowerment initiatives aimed at promoting community participation, accountability, and quality education for children.
