Tor Tiv Condemns Arson on Catholic Institutions at Ihugh Community, To Sanction Complicit Traditional Ruler

His Royal Majesty, the Tor Tiv and Chairman, Benue State Council of Chiefs, Professor James Iorzua Ayatse, has condemned in its totality the repeated and senseless burning of Catholic facilities in Ihugh, Mbadede, Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue state.

He described the act as barbaric, unacceptable and alien to the Tiv character.
A release from the palace in Gboko, said His Majesty commends the Catholic Church and in particular, the Catholic Diocese of Gboko, for its monumental contributions to Tivland in the areas of health care delivery, education, and spiritual and moral development of our people over many decades.
The Tor Tiv appreciated and commends the exceptional patience and restraint displayed by the Diocese in the face of these repeated painful acts of arson, saying he understands and feels the pains that forced the Diocese to take the difficult decision to temporarily withdraw its vital services from the area.
While appealing to the Church not to be discouraged by the actions of a few misguided individuals, His Majesty assures the Church of the full support of the Tiv Traditional Institution.
The Tor Tiv therefore, called on all relevant Security Agencies and the leadership of the Jerchira and Vandeikya (Kyan) Traditional Councils to immediately collaborate and fish out the culprits behind this sacrilege and ensure they face appropriate action and also create the enabling environment for the early return of the services withdrawn by the Diocese.
The Paramount ruer further directs all Traditional Rulers and Community Leaders across Tiv land to be more proactive in securing their domains and to ensure that perpetrators of such anti-development and anti-people acts are fished out for the collective good.
The release quotes His Majesty as warning that any Traditional Ruler who condones or allows such deviant behaviors to fester in his domain without decisive action will be held accountable by the Tiv Area Traditional Council.
