The Executive Secretary of the Borno Geographic Information Service (BOGIS), Engr. Adam Bukar Bababe, has strongly condemned the renewed wave of attacks and explosions that rocked parts of Maiduguri, describing the incidents as “barbaric and deeply troubling.”

In a statement issued through his Media Assistant, Bababe, who is currently in Saudi Arabia for the Lesser Hajj, expressed grave concern over the coordinated explosions that occurred on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Ajilari Cross, spreading to the bustling Monday Market, the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) gate, and the Post Office area.

The BOGIS chief warned that the resurgence of violence poses a serious threat to residents, especially coming after a period of relative calm in the state capital.
“Targeting innocent civilians in the holy month of Ramadan demonstrates the insurgents’ blatant disregard for human life and dignity,” Bababe said.

He called on residents to remain calm but highly vigilant, urging them to cooperate fully with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could aid ongoing operations.

Bababe also stressed the need for intensified prayers and collective support for government efforts aimed at restoring lasting peace across Borno State.
While commending the swift response of security forces and local vigilante groups in containing the attacks, he noted that similar incidents in Ngoshe, Konduga, and other communities underscore the need for sustained collaboration between citizens and authorities.

“The prompt intervention of our security personnel helped to contain what could have escalated into a far more devastating situation,” he said, reaffirming government’s determination to defeat insurgency and protect lives and property.

He extended his heartfelt condolences to families of victims affected by the tragic incidents, praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased and speedy recovery for the injured.
