Troops Arrest Suspected Gunrunners, Recover 444 Rounds of Ammunition in Taraba.

Troops of the Nigerian Army under 6 Brigade/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered 444 rounds of ammunition during a routine stop-and-search operation in Taraba State.

    In a statement signed by the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Lt Mohammed Umar, the suspects were apprehended on March 19, 2026, by troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari along the Wukari–Ikyaior Road in Wukari Local Government Area. According to military sources, the two men were intercepted while riding a motorcycle during the security operation.

    The suspects were identified as Wisdom Soomga, 32, from Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, a native of Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. A thorough search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

    Other items recovered from the suspects include ₦29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, personal belongings, and the motorcycle used for transportation.

    The suspects and the recovered exhibits are currently in military custody pending further investigation to determine the source and intended destination of the ammunition.

    The Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance and swift action, in line with the directives of the Chief of Army Staff to decisively tackle criminal activities and strengthen security across Taraba State. He urged personnel to sustain the momentum and remain resolute in ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

    Brigadier General Akaliro reassured law-abiding residents of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. He also called on members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities.

    He further reiterated his commitment to maintaining a robust reward and disciplinary system, emphasizing that officers and soldiers who display professionalism, courage, and dedication during operations would be duly recognized and rewarded.
