Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Monday moved to calm nerves within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, declaring that his defection to the ruling party was not a takeover mission but a strategic alliance to strengthen unity and political stability.

Addressing party stakeholders in Yola, the governor said his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside his political structure was guided by the need to consolidate peace and position the state for greater development. “I have not come to displace anyone,” Fintiri told party leaders.
“This is about building a stronger APC in Adamawa and working together to deliver victory in 2027.”
The governor pledged total loyalty to the party leadership and assured members that the new entrants would operate with discipline and respect for existing structures.
He urged APC leaders across wards and local governments to close ranks and deepen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the next general elections. Fintiri said the enlarged APC would be well positioned to secure overwhelming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other party candidates in 2027.
He commended President Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, for what he described as a seamless and peaceful defection process, noting that political stability in Adamawa remained paramount. The governor further argued that his administration’s performance had earned recognition beyond the state, citing independent ratings that placed Adamawa among top-performing states in the country.
Also speaking, APC National Vice Chairman (North-East), Comrade Mustafa Salihu, described the development as a significant turning point in Adamawa politics, applauding the governor for bringing his structure into the party. Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar, expressed confidence that the state now has the political strength to deliver decisive victories for the APC in future elections. State APC Chairman, Barrister Idris Shuaibu, welcomed the governor and assured him of the party’s cooperation, while acknowledging the role played by Malam Nuhu Ribadu in facilitating a smooth transition.
In his remarks, Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Awwal Tukur, said the decision followed wide consultations with stakeholders across the state.
Former PDP State Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Bello Madagali, announced that the PDP structure in Adamawa, from state executives to ward officials had been fully integrated into the APC, marking a major political realignment in the state.
