NADCEL 2026: 6 Brigade Strengthens Civil-Military Relations Through Community Service, Outreach, Medical Programme in Taraba

As part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) has carried out a series of civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) activities in Taraba State aimed at strengthening its relationship with host communities.

According to the Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations, Lt Mohammed Umar, the activities, which included environmental sanitation, public engagement and a free medical outreach, were designed to promote community service, foster public trust and deepen civil-military relations.
On July 4, officers and soldiers of the Brigade undertook an environmental sanitation exercise along the route from the Emir’s Palace to the main market in Jalingo, clearing refuse and cleaning the surroundings.
Flagging off the exercise, the Commander, 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, said the initiative provided an avenue for meaningful interaction between the military and the public.
According to him, the exercise aligns with the vision of the Chief of Army Staff to build a professional force that promotes strong civil-military relations and enjoys the confidence of the people.
The Brigade also engaged students and teachers at Hassan Government Day Secondary School, Jalingo, where activities included talks on career opportunities in the military, a quiz competition and the distribution of educational materials.
Speaking at the event, Brigadier General Akaliro noted that NADCEL goes beyond commemorating the achievements of the Nigerian Army, stressing that it also serves as a platform for fostering stronger connections with the public and inspiring young people to contribute positively to national development.
The Principal of the school, Mrs Naomi Oliver Suleiman, commended the Nigerian Army for its commitment to national unity and for providing students with valuable insights through the engagement programme.
In a related development, the Brigade extended its outreach to Sukani community in Ardo Kola Local Government Area on July 5 through a free medical programme that benefited hundreds of residents.
The outreach offered medical consultations, diagnostic tests, treatment and free medications to members of the community.
Representing the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, Dr Aisha Shehu Adamu, Dr Abubakar Suleiman Kirim described the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that access to quality healthcare remains essential for community development and social stability.
Brigadier General Akaliro reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to humanitarian services and community-centred programmes, emphasizing that such interventions help to strengthen public trust and contribute to national development.
The NADCEL activities, according to the Brigade, underscore the Nigerian Army’s dedication not only to protecting lives and property but also to supporting communities through impactful social interventions and sustained public engagement.
